On the evening of Friday, September 23, seven cars full of thirty bright-eyed and bushy-tailed new UTOC members (and two slightly less bright-eyed exec members) set out from downtown for the first of two UTOC New Members cabin trips. The group was filled with folks new to not only UofT, but many exchange students new to Canada.
Saturday morning started with a variety of hot drinks and pancakes and sausages to fuel up for the day. As soon as breakfast was done, sandwiches were made and packed, and the group split off for a day of hiking, with most folks making it out to the Mount Dhaulagiri lookout point on the Kolapore trails for lunch. Throughout Saturday, trip leader Mikhail took groups of 5 caving in the cave system by the cabin. After a long day of exploring, the group enjoyed a hearty dinner of channa masala and a desert of pumpkin brownies. S’mores were shared around a late-night campfire to round out the day.
Everyone was moving a little slower on Sunday morning after a late night. More groups went out caving while an oatmeal breakfast was made, after which the group pulled together to quickly pack up and clean up the cabin. All in all, it was a great weekend full of good food and lots of exploring, and a great introduction to UTOC for these new members!
